Some great reasons to keep properly maintain your home:
There are many reasons to keep your home in great shape and now I am going to go over a few of them.
- Saving money. Proper home maintenance will definitely save you money in the long run. Little things can and will turn in to big things if you let them go. As a home inspector in Pittsburgh, I have seen so many things that could of been easily fixed, but were left go, and are now expensive items that need to be repaired before the house is sold.
- Safety. There are many safety issues that can happen in a house through time and use. A big one that should be monitored is moisture leakage in to the house that could potentially cause the growth of mold. There are many different places that water leaks can happen, such as ground water, plumbing leaks inside of walls, as well as roof leakage.
- Overall condition of the house. When a house is kept up properly, it not only looks nicer, but is easier to maintain. If you maintain your house on a regular basis, it doesn’t take as much to keep it in great shape. Most people do little to nothing and then are faced with major repair costs that could of been avoided.
- Increased value of home. A house that is in good condition will be able to get more money for the seller when it goes on the market. This is common sense, although I see houses everyday that are in poor shape and the seller wonders why it won’t get their inflated asking price.
As you can see there are many reasons to take care of your home and this list only scratches the surface of them all. In my opinion, the biggest reason that people let their homes go is that they really don’t know what they should be doing each month. Another reason is that with our busy lifestyles, we just don’t give it much priority. Hopefully after reading the information on this site and on the monthly home maintenance checklists that I will provide to you, you will have a better understanding of what should be done.
